Be it older or younger, some people have bad teeth since their childhood – like yellowness and weak gums. The reason for this is that during pregnancy, mothers do not take care to eat nutritive foods that are necessary for the child. For instance, they must have milk and calcium supplements regularly during their pregnancy. This helps with good teeth for the mother as well as the child. To protect the teeth from any harm, it’s important to keep the teeth clean after eating anything. The most common reasons for spoilt teeth in children are excessive consumption of sweets, candy, biscuits and ice-cream. Too much sugar in milk also causes teeth to go bad. Do not feed too much of sweet food stuff to kids up to the age of 3 years.

Taking care of your teeth:
- Grind dry Cinnamon and massage your teeth with this powder every three days to make them shine.
- In case you feel cold in your teeth or your teeth are bleeding, apply the mixture of turmeric powder and Alum and massage your teeth with this mixture.
- Gargle with lemon water a few times a day.
- Take dry twigs of Neem, roast them till black and then grind them in to a powder. Mix clove powder, peppermint and salt in this powder and massage your teeth with it. It strengthens the gums.
- Roast Almond peels till they’re black and cover them. Grind them the next day and add a pinch of powdered Alum and clean teeth with this powder. It helps cure all teeth related ailments.
- Chew a lot on fresh Mango leaves and then spit them away. This stops the gums from bleeding and makes them strong.
- Mix turmeric powder, mustard oil and salt and brush your teeth with this. This will strengthen the gums and whiten the teeth.
- Eating tomatoes strengthens the teeth and gums. Children especially should be given tomatoes to eat.
- Massage the teeth and gums with finely grounded rock salt. The teeth will shine.
- Grind a Gallnut and brush the teeth with the powder. It strengthens the teeth.
- In case the teeth become sensitive, eat Almonds or gargle with warm salt water.
- If there is pain in the teeth or the teeth seem weak and moving from the gums then while boweling in the morning, clench your jaws. It will help in a few days.
- If there is pain in the teeth or gums, then place a piece of onion or make a pellet of chewed onion and place it there.
- If there is pain in the teeth then gargle with warm water mixed with salt.
- If there is pain in the teeth, add salt and grounded Oregano to boiling water and cover with a lid. After a while, gargle with this water thrice a day. Oregano helps prevent any kind of teeth-related ailment.
- Grind Basil (Tulsi) and Black Pepper and make pellets of them. Press a pellet on a paining tooth to relieve the pain.
- Brush with grounded mint leaves.
- Apply Gooseberry juice to the teeth to eradicate germs.
- Oranges are helpful for curing Pyorrhea. Dry the peels of oranges in the sun and grind into a powder. Brush with this powder.
- Dry the seed of Mango and grind into a fine powder. Brush regularly with this powder. This prevents and cures Pyorrhea and all other dental ailments.
- Eat raw cabbage like a salad. It helps prevent Pyorrhea.
- In case of Pyorrhea, mix Camphor with home-made ghee and apply this to the gums 4 times a day and spit it out. Gargle with plain normal water after this.
- Consumption of Spinach helps prevent Pyorrhea.
- Wrap Camphor and gram pulse in a Betel leaf and chew and spit it out. Make sure to not swallow this.

Dental ailments and diseases and their preventive measures:
Pyorrhea
- Sieve rock salt in a piece of cloth; mix this in mustard oil and brush with this mixture.
- Oranges are helpful for curing Pyorrhea. Dry the peels of oranges in the sun and grind into a powder. Brush with this powder.
- Dry the seed of Mango and grind into a fine powder. Brush regularly with this powder. This prevents and cures Pyorrhea and all other dental ailments.
- Eat raw cabbage like a salad. It helps prevent Pyorrhea.
- In case of Pyorrhea, mix Camphor with home-made ghee and apply this to the gums 4 times a day and spit it out. Gargle with plain normal water after this.

Bad Breath:
- Chew lightly roasted Cumin. It will drive away the odor.
- Chew fresh Coriander.
- Gargle as much and as many times as possible.
- Keep chewing on Cardamom or Liquorice.
- Mix 1 spoon of ginger juice in water and gargle.

Teething:
Newly born children start teething by 6-8 months of age. During this period children go through difficulties like Diarrhea. The reason being that this is the time a newly born kid starts walking and moving around and puts anything he/she finds in their mouth. The baby’s hands also are dirty. The baby even puts plastic toys in its mouth and thus gets prone a lot of infections. Thus, also prone to Diarrhea. Hence, it’s very important to keep the surroundings around a baby very clean. It is also very important to keep cleaning the baby’s toys and they shouldn’t be given furry toys.
Measures:
- During warm days and summer days, give cool butter-milk 2-3 times to the child.
- Mix fresh Basil (Tulsi) in Honey and apply on the gums or keep giving a little every few hours. This increases immunity and prevents infections.
- If the child gets Diarrhea, give thin milk.
- Mix one pinch of long pepper powder with Honey and massage the child’s gums. This will alleviate the discomfort as well as help the teeth grow faster.
- When afflicted by Diarrhea, the child becomes very weak. Keep giving 2-2 spoons of grape juice every couple of hours. This will keep the child healthy and also help the teeth grow faster.
- In case the child is very uncomfortable and cries a lot during the teething period, boil thick Aniseed (Saunf) in water and sieve it. Keep giving a spoonful many times a day. It can also be mixed with milk and given.
