From time immemorial grapes have been used both for medicinal and nourishment purposes. In ayurveda is has been well recognized and used to treat certain ailments.

In Sanskrit word grape is called as Draksha. Drakshasav syrup is being sold in the market as a health tonic by a number of ayurvedic manufacturers. Grape’s constituents are one of the main detoxifying food.

Grapes are excellent sources of vitamins (Vitamin-B6, B1, C) and minerals. The grapes contain high antioxidant compound. Dark grape are high in iron. The grapes are excellent for promoting of action of bowel, cleansing the liver and aiding the kidney function, help in elimination  the causes of prostrate and lung cancer and good for nervous system.        

Grapes regulate LDL-Low Density Lipid in the blood (bad cholesterol). Its anti-coagulation properties help to prevent platelet aggregation. It also helps in treating lung, liver and prostate cancers to a large extent.

Grapes strengthen the heart muscles and also eliminate free radicals. Manganese, potassium, Vitamin B, Vitamin-C is some of the constituents of grapes.

It treated Alzheimer’s disease by the consumption of grapes.

Fully ripe grapes are the best to consume.

Black grapes have more medicinal value that the green ones.

Dried grapes are also having the same medicinal values as the fresh ones and available throughout the year. It can be used as raw or dip in water for some time and take it.

Black grapes help to cure constipation. Soak a few raisins in a glass of water before going to bed. Eat the raisins and drink the water the first thing next day morning after cleaning your teeth, of course. Regular usage for about a month or so corrects even chronic constipation.

Grapes are excellent thirst quenchers especially at the time of fever. A couple of raisins taken when feeling thirsty will help quench the thirst as well as revitalize almost instantly.

Instead of taking red wine, consuming fresh black grapes is advised for a healthier heart. Or else you can take a spoonful of drakshasav. This is available at all leading ayurveda shops. Drakshasav also helps to overcome lethargy, infuse vitality and promote well-being.

Grapes are helpful in maintaining a healthy heart and curing various heart problems.

Grape skins contain quercetin, a plant pigment that is thought to regulate the levels of blood cholesterol. It seems that grapes juice or wine works by blocking the artery clogging effects of fatty food products.

Grape is high in bioflavonoid, antioxidant that protects the body against cancer cells and also helps kill cancer cells. Bioflavonoid also facilitate the absorption of vitamin C into the body.

Grapes also contain tannin, another polyphenol that can help fight viruses and tumors. Tannin is absorbed in the intestinal tract, where it is most effective in fighting viruses.

Grapes stimulate endothelial nitric oxide production which induces relaxation of the blood vessel walls, and reduces blood pressure levels.

One glass of grape juice may enhance the working of brain and delay neurodegenerative diseases.

Grapes juice can reduce the pressure of kidneys.

Grapes are good to cure the constipation.

It’s good in curing the migraine. A glass of juice must be taken in the morning.

A glass of juice any time a day prevents age related eye disorders.

Consumption of one glass of grape juice is much in better flow of blood in the bronchial arteries.

Red grapes have the strong antibacterial and antiviral properties.

Cautions: Commercial grown grapes are usually sprayed with pesticide and are treated with sulfur dioxide to preserve their colour and extend shelf life; they should be washed properly before eaten.

People allergic to aspirin may react to grape as it contains salicylates.
